How do I pick the right voice actor?

Updated: Jul 31

Voice overs are often at the end of a production chain.

The video is recorded. The music has been decided. Many things have already been put together.

What will often happen is a client will come to you and be in a rush.

So how can you make their life easier?

1. Answer emails quickly.

1. Nobody wants to be waiting around for an email, so I make sure I answer as quickly as I can. This is why I also have an email client on my phone, so if I'm out and about, I can still answer quickly.

2. Given that in many projects the VO is the last thing that gets done there is frequently a rush to get it finished, especially if it's towards the end of the week.

2. Be ready to record at a moments notice.

1. Most studios and clients will work regular working hours so think 9-5, 10-6, so I expect requests during that period of time.

2. For a lot of projects I do I will sometimes offer to record a free custom sample based on their material if they provide it, so it really helps for them to be able to quickly understand if I'm the right fit for their project.

3. Don't disappear after a project seems to be completed.

1. There may be last-minute revisions, there may be an error that needs to be corrected. Make sure you're available to deal with any issue that might occur.

I always try my very best to accomodate my clients needs. It's essential. After all, they're paying you!
